This November 19th, the XXXVI International Mining Congress and Exhibit commenced in Acapulco city, Guerrero. This event being considered as the biggest mining summit in Mexico, organized by Asociación de Ingenieros de Minas, Metalurgistas y Geólogos de México.
The event featured prominent authorities from the sector, including Rubén del Pozo, president of the AIMMGM; Pedro Rivero, president of the Cámara Minera de México; Fernando Aboitiz, head of the Unidad Coordinadora de Actividades Extractivas del Gobierno Federal; and Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy.
During his speech, Marcelo Ebrard stated that 2026 “will be a year of very good results because we will work together to guarantee the security of the supply chain and ensure the safety of the minerals that Mexico needs to be competitive.”
He also announced the reactivation of large-scale mining exploration, highlighting the current government’s commitment to expedite permits and reduce approval times. These measures seek to strengthen the security of the supply chain amid the international geopolitical context. Ebrard emphasized that access to minerals and transformation processes will be crucial for national competitiveness in the coming years. Since mining projects require long development periods, a strategic push to accelerate their maturation is anticipated.
The progress and actions being implemented are part of Plan México, which aims to consolidate a strong mining industry that promotes sustainability as well as labor and environmental responsibility.
With the federal government’s willingness to collaborate closely with the mining sector, the goal is to provide certainty and generate suitable conditions so that exploration and project development advance with social and environmental commitment. This opens a robust planning perspective and a promising future for upcoming investment cycles.
